Flash End-of-Life and Your Web Applications
Adobe announced Flash Player End-of-Life
As previously announced in July 2017, Adobe will end support of Flash Player on December 31, 2020. That means Adobe won't provide security patches after the end of 2020 and the browsers will obviously block (or totally disable) the Flash Player. Moreover, the main browsers already have their own roadmap to get rid of Flash Player:
- Google - Flash Roadmap
- Mozilla - Plugin Roadmap for Firefox
- Microsoft - The End of an Era - Next Steps for Adobe Flash
Which of your web applications use Flash?
Blocking Flash is probably a good news for security. However, if your web applications still rely on Flash for any kind of rendering (sounds, movies, games, forms, ...), your users will not see them anymore when their browser will be up-to-date. Although Flash is old and soon an obsolete technology, many web applications still use it.
Purplemet provides a technology inventory of your web applications, therefore it's really easy to spot which web applications are still using Flash. This information will help you to plan your migration or at the very least to know whether these web applications will have limited display or features after December 31, 2020.
